Developing Ourselves Through Group Work

Join me, Jean Gamble, for a fun, challenging, and evolutionary program of group work.

These are quite the opposite of traditional "group therapy" which commonly has an underlying theme that you need “fixing” or you have things you need to address before your life can be settled and harmonious.

Personal development groups are more about providing a safe space to be yourself as you know you truly are – underneath the habitual behaviours that might have been adopted to survive life's challenges.

Often when we have been working on ourselves or examining our patterns of relating, we discover that we want to do things differently. These groups can create a safe space for people to try out new ways of being with others – without risk of harm or humiliation.

These groups can be playful and joyful even though the intent is purposeful and very real.

As a skilful and experienced group facilitator, I support these experiments and encourage transparency and safety within the group.

Group work can be very supportive when we are wanting to develop greater awareness of ourselves, the patterns that sometimes run us and what supports our relationships with others. It is a great forum for learning to observe and manage our reactions.

Clients often ask me why people join a group.... The answers are very different depending on the person!

One example could be that you have discovered you have people-pleasing tendencies that can result in you feeling overwhelmed or stressed.  Having decided you don’t want to do this anymore – you can come to group and practice being this different you in the safety of the group.

Similarly – you may have become tired of your inability to express in a group setting and can then come into the group to practice sharing your opinions and giving feedback to others in the group. At the same time there is the space and support to track within yourself how this is feeling.

Others come because they want to feel more relaxed and comfortable being themselves in social situations.
